JSKA International Classes Cater to All Ages
Age 5
"I like to practice karate because I can practice with my Mommy and karate makes my muscles strong. "
Age 12
"What karate means to me:
Karate to me is a well-organized way of self defense that doesn’t use weapons but uses his or her body in case of any danger. It came from Japan and it was passed down from generation to generation.
I joined karate because I used to do karate with my brother in another dojo and wanted to continue. It was interesting to me to see people move in a way that protected them and told the opponent (s) to stop, it also interested me in how people reacted to what others threw at them in a fast and skilled motion. Learning karate gave me the chance to protect me and the people that I care about.
"I like karate because the people are nice, friendly and we all strive to improve and challenge ourselves in karate. I like the sensei, the higher ranks, and the lower ranks. I also like challenging myself with other people from other dojos in tournaments. It helps me improve too. I love karate."
Age 25
“Sensei Tabassi and my peers in the class have helped inspire me to be the best version of myself all aspects of life, at work, in school, and in daily practice. It’s helped me to balance life’s daily pressures and alleviate stress while uniting mind, body and spirit resulting in a healthy sense of accomplishment. I encourage anyone and everyone to try this class - I know it will be life changing for you!”
Age 30
“I’ve been training with Sensei Tabassi for approximately three years now, and I’m enamored every week by his creative teaching style encompassing discipline, repetition and persistence to reach our common goals. What is most prevalent is his passion for the art and how he cares about students, who range in all ages. By demonstrating the basic techniques of Shotokan Karate through a variety of learning exercises and conditioning multiple times a week, I’ve not only gained more understanding and respect of the art itself but have implemented a healthier lifestyle because of it.”
Age 40
“I have trained under Sensei Tabassi for almost 20 years. His classes have helped me develop confidence in myself and my ability to achieve my goals in karate, and in everyday life. He has a remarkable ability to understand students' needs and is able to tailor his teaching to any level of experience and understanding. I have been a part of the class long enough to see how others truly benefit from training with Sensei Tabassi and all of the ways students grow and improve over the years.”
Age 45
"I have been training with Sensei Tabassi for twenty four years. Sensei Tabassi's teaching has pushed and motivated me in all aspects of my life. Through his intense training, I have learned that I can achieve anything I put my heart into. I excelled in my work and in pursuing a Masters degree as a result of this confidence and motivation. I highly recommend this class to those who seek excellence in body, mind and spirit. I am physically and emotionally stronger as a result of the intensity in which Sensei Tabassi teaches."
Age 65
“I began training with Sensei Mahmoud Tabassi exactly 10 years ago, in January of 2001. Through the years, Sensei has been consistently focused on the totality of karate: not only the physical techniques, but, even more importantly, the spirit of the martial art--dedication, using one's maximum energy, holding true to basic principles, and mutual loyalty. We express these principles in an ancient mantra called the Dojo Kun, which speaks of character, fortitude, etiquette, self control, belief in principles, and loyalty. Sensei Tabassi embodies the Dojo Kun. The Dojo Kun, however does not speak of one more attribute that characterizes him: compassion. Sensei Tabassi clearly cares about his students.”
