Sensei Hidetaka Nishiyama, 1928-2008

   We mourn the loss of Sensei Hidetaka Nishiyama, who passed away on November 8th, 2008 at the age of 80.  Sensei Nishiyama was the President and Chairman of both the American Amateur Karate Federation and the International Traditional Karate Federation.  Born in Tokyo, he began practicing shotokan at the age of 15 in the Hombu Dojo under the founder of shotokan, Sensei Gichin Funakosh

Shotokan Karate is a Japanese style of karate founded in Okinawa, Japan by Master Gichin Funakoshi, who wished to promote a system of total mental and physical discipline. This style emphasizes strong, low stances, powerful basic techniques, and mastery of both kata (form) and kumite (sparring).
